![]() It's the last step that I'm stuck on because I'm not sure how to get the Scarlett to behave in this way whereby I get the plugin sound going to the main mix rather than the keyboard sound. >MainStage back out through Scarlett to mix? >Scarlett into Mac running MainStage for plugins (piano sounds etc) What are my options from here then?Īll I can think of is utilising my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (which I guess is perfect for this scenario) but I wanted to know how I would set this up for a live context. It's pretty old so I'm planning for a "no". Offhand I can't remember if his keyboard has USB connectivity. I'm looking to set something up for my keyboard player as he doesn't have the facilities. Just wanted to clarify a few things if you don't mind. Hey, I've just found this thread as I'm looking to do pretty much the same thing. The audio drivers built in on your Mac are not really optimized for this, whereas on a sound card, you can set the buffers much lower, and get less of a delay, arguably, NO delay.Īnother thing you might want to consider, is that Mainstage has "Playback" plug ins, so you could load background music into MS and play along with it! ![]() You might also consider running the Mac into a DI box to get it up to +4, might be cheaper than a sound card.Īlso, most keyboard players I have worked with a pretty fussy about "latency" which is the timing differences between when you hit a key on the keyboard, and when you hear the actual sound. Running direct from your Mac means a higher NOISE floor. The Mac is -10, a sound card is typically +4. However, the advantages of using a sound card is that you will get a much higher quality signal going to the mixing board/or the amps. If you have a mixing board, you could run a 1/8" TRS to 1/4" "Y" cable to the mixer, no need for a sound card. You should use the USB/MIDI interface to get the keyboards into the computer, not likely you will need drivers, but if you do, probably easy to find. Sounds to me like you have everything you need! I know this is basic, but that's where I am.Thank you all. If there is an old forum addressing this, I apologize and would just ask you to point me in the right direction. If I go direct in utilizing USB with both, shouldn't I run the out through a soundcard/interface before going to the main board? Should I go direct to MBP from the ES-7 after downloading drivers? or utilize interface?Ģ. recently I tried to use the ES-7 running through the Audiobox but am having difficulties assigning knobs and sliders.ġ. My desire is to ditch the old piano and run the ES-7 and another Midi keyboard (49 keys) and utilize all sounds within Logic/Mainstage. Presonus Audiobox 2X2 (with midi in and out) Macbook Pro running most recent addition of Mavericks - 500GB, i5,4G of RAM Looking for the most efficient and cost effective setup. Now attempting to transition to Software instruments with Logic Pro X and then utilizing mainstage 3 for live sets in our Worship Band. Strictly owned different hardware and played. ![]() I can also see a MIDI response in MainStage as well when I trigger from the M-Audio.Īny help and/or suggestions are very much welcome and thank you for viewing this thread.I have never utilized any computers for playing live. It should be noted that when I'm in the Mac's Audio/MIDI preferences, I can see the MIDI signal and I can see it within Reaper as well but no sound whatsoever. ![]() It's hard to believe that I would need an external soundcard to achieve this in theory, the ability to route this should work with my current setup. I've also seen people building aggregate devices within OS X to compile all of the useful elements together but mainly with a soundcard of some sort. Where there has been people having success with Live, has anybody had any success with what I'm proposing? I'm especially looking to record the actual MIDI data into Reaper from MainStage. Yes.I understand I'm not using Live here but the main purpose of watching these videos is to get a general understanding of the routing scheme. The videos I've seen are people doing this with Ableton Live, Soundflower, and MainStage. I've seen a couple of videos on YouTube touching on this but not anything specific to Reaper. ![]() I have a grasp on how the routing is supposed to go but I'm obviously missing something. All 3 pieces of software are up to date and so is my OS. What I'm trying to achieve is being able to record audio and MIDI output from MainStage into Reaper via Soundflower. I do see that some of you have had success but I'm wondering if its the same success I'm looking for. I've been searching the net for a solution to get Reaper, Soundflower, and MainStage all working together. ![]()
